Great deal for a Rochelle concertina...

Great deal for a Rochelle concertina...

Just ordered yesterday a Rochelle concertina from the Music Room online site. They have a 20% discount only for January!!!

I ordered it with next day delivery (an extra £10) and it's just arrived. A great service and the normal retail price is £210 with the discount it came down to £168!!! That must be a good deal if anyone wants one.

Here's the link :

Re: Great deal for a Rochelle concertina...

Maybe this needs a new thread. I have been thinking about taking up concertina, but know nothing more than the players I know use C/G anglos and are sooo good that their instruments are heirloom quality.

As a box player, I know to avoid the eastern european and chinese instruments. In shopping for concertinas, is there a similar situation? And also what brand conertinas are good values to learn on expecting that once I actually know what I am doing, I will end up buying a better instrument.

Advice greatly appreciated.

Re: Great deal for a Rochelle concertina...

@zippy:
The Chinese made instruments are not really a good value. They have poor sound, poor action, are stiff to move, and cost much more then they should. I've been learning on a Rochelle for a year now. Wim. Wakker has done a great job creating a good learning instrument that you don't have to wait half a year to get and for such a low price to boot. There are some trade offs of course; the instrument is really an accordion in concertina clothing (and as a result roughly the size of a Battleship when compared to a higher quality instrument.) That said I would suggest the Rochelle over anything else on the market right now for someone who wants to start off in the Concertina world on a budget. Plus you can trade it in for a full refund if or when you upgrade to a better model for Wim. in the future (He has a planned intermediate model (The Clover)supposedly coming out in the next few months.)

Re: Great deal for a Rochelle concertina...

Chinese guitars, mandolas and zouks are excellent instruments. I confess I don't know anything about concertina's, except they are like harmonicas. I know nothing about harmonicas either, but I can play one.

This does seem to be a good buy, according to reports.

Spent about three hours in agony trying to rake up the dosh and courage to go buy one, especially as I'm off to Galway next week. Still, threw all caution to the wind and ordered it about ten in the morning, delivered yesterday 10.00am! (must get something for this instrumentitus...)

I did put it on the sesh straight away though.....
