So the waiting is nearly over and I should be arriving in Galway on Wed. 23rd Jan great! I received a whole bunch of info as a result of my last posting on the Sesh http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display/15751/comments#comment327063
and to those who contributed, a huge thanks. I booked into the Sleepzone and intend staying 'till the following Wednesday.
Just thought I'd ask if any sesh members are around Galway that week and what sessions might be around that could be a fit for me, both from a listening/learning point of view as well as possible participation. My profile says it in a nutshell http://www.thesession.org/members/display.php/33311 if anyone wants to take a look.
Thanks in advance for inputs, and looking forward to a great week. (I am bringing the banjo by the way..... I think there is a Student session in Richardsons on Thursday evening, Dusty Banjos, is that still on?)
Hi terry ,im not long back from Galway great place for music i'm pretty sure the dusty banjos session is still on but failing that there,s sessions going on all over town just about every night and day ,theres ti coeli,s on shop street which seems to be the most popular they have sessions most days and nights, opposite there is taffes they are also regular , and then theres the crane bar they have many sessions upstairs and downstairs with regular begginers nights , i'm sure you wont have to walk too far before you hear a tune .hope thats of some help have a good trip. good luck
Great stuff, thanks for the info. Looks like I'm in for a busy week right! By the way welshman, I know how you feel, I live in much the same music desert although I am trying to start a local session. Not sure if it will get off the ground but I'm gonna try anyway.
Still I got seats on Ryanair for 2p each return Stanstead to Knock, that's cheaper than staying here. I just did the same thing before Christmas and flew Stanstead - Salzburg for the same price. One thing for anyone thinking of taking instruments, Ryanair were great and there was no trouble with the banjo at all. I did have a seat for it though, although the staff said I could have brought it as cabin uggage anyway. Still at 2p a seat it wasn't aproblem.
Once again thanks for the info, am really looking forward to it.
On my way to first trip to Galway,,,
