This is not a discussion, but a request for vital information which can be posted in the Sessions section, where I will look for it, or emailed directly to me. I will be in North Jersey/ NYC next week for a week or so and will be looking for a few tunes. New York City is not heavily represented in the Sessions section and some of the info is at least a year old now. I tried Dempsey's at Christmas and there wasn't any music. I try to go to Mona's and Paddy Reilly's when I am in town, but wouldn't mind trying a few new venues. I hear the Scratcher and Thady Conn's are, alas, no more. I would be looking for open sessions with quite advanced players, but any suggestions at all would be appreciated.
There is a great session at O'Neill's Pub on 3rd Ave at 45th St. Saturdays from 9 to 1. Brian Conway is a fantastic fiddler, wonderful musician, and all around great fellow. He's quite busy, however, so don't be surprised to see some new faces. The tunes are always great, and NYC's best players pop in frequently. Tell the folks I said hello.

Dempsey's still going on a tuesday night about 8. Also a session in jersey city on sundays at 2pm at Dorrians. good luck
