Come on saint, there are a number of folk here who are more than willing to point newbies in the right direction.. like; F!"£ off out of this session!.... no, only kidding.
But sometimes that advice is not whet they want to hear
|Any how i am happy to help out at any time.
Yeah, was wondering that myself! I have never been able to post more than one thread a day...
And jig is right, Saint, there's a lot of people on this site that will offer helpful advice. You just have to dig through the chaff sometimes to find it. I think this thread is a good example of that: http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display/15584
Any time a community has more than 40000 people that take part, you're bound to have some arguing and bickering. But in my book, it's OK, it's all part of the fun
I was a beginner--heck, I'm still a beginner, compared to many many players--and this site has helped me a lot. You just can't be too thin-skinned about it, that's all. If you really want to learn about something, you don't let a few nasty comments get in your way.
LOL, I keep waiting for someone to use "Sybil" as their screen name, and then leave us to guessing which of their multiple personalities is posting at any given time. :-o
Eddie, as I said on the thread that Pete points to, the friendly helpful members here vastly outnumber the antagonistic ones.
I know a bunch of us here who regularly respond to emails from new and old members alike asking for tune names, transcriptions, help with ABCs, etc. I've responded to 4 such requests this week alone.
The question is of interest to me.
Once a month I have a session with my fiddle students.
Two of them use TheSession to get tunes. But they have little to no interest in the 'Discussions'. I know the information is here but they are not interested.
BTW they love playing trad tunes.
I do hope by beginner you are including individuals of very few years. Older beginners, of course, also welcome.
I have just one student over the age of fourteen.
Any sites where people help beginners?
Any sites where people help beginners?
Because this one has few.

Re: Any sites where people help beginners?
Hey, how come you can submit 2 discussions on the same day? And that was ' what' as opposed to whet, from my last post.

(See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirley_Mason if you're not familiar with the Sybil case.)

Re: Any sites where people help beginners?
Is this a question about alternative sites?
There are some good ones.
There are plenty which are much worse.
Not sure what you are fishing for Saint.

Re: Any sites where people help beginners?
For beginning whistling there is http://www.whistlethis.com and there's another site http://www.tradlessons.com/ with videos instruction on a handful of instruments. You can also go to http://www.musicmoose.org/ another really helpful site.
