Heh, I think you've got me confused with Tweedledee and Tweedledum.... (Just one cheshire puddy tat here so far)
I would search by typing "DFA DFA" into google or some other general search engine, not just thesession.org's search feature. You'll be happily surprised at how often this site leads the pack with hits. And that way, you'll also hit on tune settings that are in the comments, not just the original submission.
In the rare occasion when you don't get a hit at thesession.org, you're still likely to find some version of the tune elsewhere (JC's tune finder, Henrik Norbeck's site, etc.), and from there gete a name or more common setting to lead you back to a tune posted here.
Sara - that's because bledsoeo's setting is (A) with the parts reversed from how it's often played, and (B) not the normal setting (see my B part above).
I looked at it again, and the tunes are very simular, but not quite the same. Blesoeo's verson is arranged the opposite of TheSession's. Very interesting.
I use JC's all the time, but I didn't know you could search for ABC fragments on it. When I know the name of a tune, I always go there for the wide selection of files.
If you know a way to look up ABC snippets on JC's, could you share?
Bledsoeo, what I'm suggesting is using google to search for abc snippets. Then if you get a name, you can search here or JC's for the tune.
Sara--yep, the parts are flipped, and there are some differences (one of the issues is that bledsoeo notated a ^B, which is really just C natural), but they're clearly the same tune.
Tune Name (really fun one!)
Tune Name (really fun one!)
Hey sorry, but I have been looking for a name to go with this tune for 2 weeks now. I built the ABC for it as follows:
X: 1
T: Unknown but Fun!!!
T: Jig D Maj
M: 6/8
L: 1/8
Q:400
R: jig
K: Dmaj
| d2e |: fef def | gfg B3 | efe e2d |cBA a2g |
| fef def | gfg B3 | efe ABc | df~e d2 z :|
|: (DFA) (DFA) | (DFA) (B2 A) | (DFA) (DFA) | (G~FG) E2 F |
| (DFA) (DFA) | (DFA) (B2 g) | ~fed ABc | dfe d2 z :|
I originally heard it for banjo in a NY session, with a slight variant in the B section:
X: 2
T: Unknown but Fun!!!
T: Jig D Maj (var.)
M: 6/8
L: 1/8
Q:400
R: jig
K: Dmaj
| d2e |: fef def | gfg B3 | efe e2d |cBA a2g |
| fef def | gfg B3 | efe ABc | df~e d2 z :|
|: (DFA) (DFA) | (DFA) (B2 A) | (DFA) (DFA) | ^B,EG AGE |
| (DFA) (DFA) | (DFA) (B2 g) | ~fed ABc | dfe d2 z :|
Please, some kind soul, can you put a name to this?

Re: Tune Name (really fun one!)
It's Andy DeJarlis's Jig, a Cape Breton tune, originally played in E.

Go to the comments for a setting in D.
The way I know the B part is (in Dmaj):
DFA DFA|DFA B2 A|DFA DFA|=CEG AGE|

Re: Tune Name (really fun one!)
Bless you both! You know, trying to name an unknown tune is like having a splinter in your finger that you can't get out..(well maybe not that bad!)
Anyway - do you have any recommendations on how to search out a tune like this that is in a variant key from the posted original?

Re: Tune Name (really fun one!)
I used an ABC converter, and it doesn't look like Andy De Jarlis to me. Here is the link for the converter:
