Giorgi end blown flutes?

Giorgi end blown flutes?

Following on from the prevous thread where some people mentioned that they played whistles because of ergonomic problems with the flute, I managed t track down the reference I was looking for for end blown flutes.

Has anyone ever tried one of these flutes out? How do they play? Is supporting the weight of the flute in the vertical position a problem?

Do any of the modern makers make this style of headjoint?

Chris.

Re: Giorgi end blown flutes?

These are very rare and I would think that they are all in museums.
About the headjoint, I tried Googling things like "vertical flute headjoint" etc and came across a couple different companies that make vertical headjoints for Boehm flutes. They are very expensive. At the NAMM show there was a small booth owned by a guy who had developed a "T" shaped headjoint for the Boehm. In retrospect I should have bought one, as Googling has not helped me find his company.

Re: Giorgi end blown flutes?

These appear on ebay from time to time and often go for premium prices, there was a Bb flat recently which was unusual in that it had standard fingering; most have a rather unique fingering system.
If you do a search on chiff & fipple there have been a couple of recent threads which might be of interest.
