Places to stay in Ennis

Places to stay in Ennis

I plan to go to Ennis for a few weeks at Christmas. Would like to listen and learn and join in some sessions. I have tried to find a self-catering place within Ennis but they appear to be outside the town. Would anyone know of self-catering or apartment units for rent by the week? Thanks! Any intermediate level sessions taking place on an ongoing basis there? I am familiar with the one Owen and Quintin do (I think it is still going at Brogans' on some nights). Thanks!!

Re: Places to stay in Ennis

I'd like to tag along here. I'm spending the month of November in County Clare and am looking for a self-catering place in the Ennistymon, Lisdoonvarna, Lahinch, Kilshanney area. I'm a non-smoking, quiet, retired school teacher flute player.

Re: Places to stay in Ennis

The best place to start is http://www.gulliver.ie. The going rate for a s/c place in Clare seems to be €300 a week in November, but I did notice some places which were much cheaper.

Christmas is always a bad time to try to find s/c accommodation anywhere in Ireland unless you've booked months in advance.

Re: Places to stay in Ennis

Thank you for the information. Self-catering places seem to be scarce in Ennis. Anyone ever stay at the Crown? It would appear to be close to Brogan's and some sessions. I would like to avoid B&B's at Christmas time.

Re: Places to stay in Ennis

Sorry I think the name is the Queens Hotel.

Re: Places to stay in Ennis

The Queen's is comfortable enough though it can be noisy at weekends as it has its own nightclub. Its website - http://irishcourthotels.com/ - is currently offering single en suite rooms in December for €50 per night. You could probably cut a very decent deal if you rang them directly - 065/682 8963.

Re: Places to stay in Ennis

I should have added that virtually all the hotel rooms in Ennis are probably booked already over the Christmas period.

Re: Places to stay in Ennis

Don't they do selfcatering apps at The Barge Inn? (there's a website out there)

Re: Places to stay in Ennis

The Barge Rooms does not do self-catering.

The Abbey Tourist Hostel is still undergoing refurbishment and unlikely to be open for some time.

There are no longer 'loads' of B&Bs on the Ennistymon/Lahinch road (more can be found on the roads to Tulla and Quin or around Barefield). However, that's an irrelevance as the majority of B&Bs in and around Ennis are not open in December. However, you can do a search of registered B&Bs at http://www.taaireland.com/.

How do I know all this? Well, I co-write 'The Rough Guide to Ireland' and have just come back from a research trip to Clare.
