I’m not so good at the proper terminology but I’m trying to have a note sustain over a bar line for midi playback. I thought maybe if I enclosed it in parentheses it might work, and the sheet notation looks right, but I still get two distinct note events:
ab(c | c) de
The c sounds twice but I want it to be one note, essentially c2 that plays over the bar. I use Barfly 1.70 or the Concertina.net tune-a-tron. I haven’t found anything on the usual abc tutorial sites.
I’m trying to transcribe a slow air and the phrasing is VERY rubato. I’m getting confused trying to transcribe it and I was hoping if playback was a little smoother I might have an easier time of it.
Thanks, Laitch. And yeah, Michael, I am in need of help, no doubt of it. I've learned by ear most of my life, and only fairly recently learned to read music. So unless I can hear at least something-- albeit sadly robotic-- the notation doesn't make as much sense.
Sometimes when I have a tune & want to play it at the next session I send a sound file (not always midi). A couple of days later, at the session, people have had a chance to hear the tune & get it in their head. You can learn from primitive recordings. Sure there is grumbling about the midis but everyone gives it a listen & manages to learn the tune.
Thanks, I will work through Chris Walshaw's list. Am working on my flute embouchure and at the moment a MIDI player's idea of 'in tune' is much better than my unaided ears.
abc navigator 2 will render a midi file From there I use yamaha's XGWorks to play around with rubotos ...all of which takes time to learn...
In both programs there are patchs for different instruments
I don't use a sound card I use midi out to a keyboard

Re: midi playback of abc notation help needed

Re: midi playback of abc notation help needed
Can anyone suggest a ABC to MIDI converter that has a less pronounced attack than the piano-like plonking that most of them produce.

Re: midi playback of abc notation help needed
Phil Taylor (Barfly) has created a Sound Font of his concertina.
Chris Walshaw has links to abc programs which play abc.
http://www.walshaw.plus.com/abc/software.html
The programs which play ABC in MIDI have options for changing the instrument. The final MIDI instrument sound also depends on your sound card.
The online converters don't have an interface for changing the default 'piano'.
