I love Patrick Street but their CDs down the years have, for me, lost a bit of sparkle (which is completely at odds with their live performances). I loved the first three or four but I found 'em a bit patchy after that. I hope this will be the one to buck the trend!
I'm very fond of Corner Boys (5th album) and Made in Cork (6th album). I heard various negative comments on 'Street Life' (7th album) which is the reason I've never even considered to buy it and why I subsequently can't judge it.
I think the best ones are the very first one and "Irish Times," due allowance in the case of the latter having been made for Gerry O'Beirne's two songs which I like but which I'm not sure fit too well with the rest of the album. I bought the first one as a vinyl album at one of their very first gigs, in Exeter, and Kevin Burke scribbled his moniker on the cover for me! Ah, those long-gone groupie days...
Jackie will play for the last time with Patrick Street (live or on recordings) next Saturday at Return to Camden. He will also be giving a solo performance on the Saturday night. He will be playing at the Aberdeen reed festival over the following weekend along with his usual Saturday night partner, Conor Keane.
New Patrick Street CD "On the Fly"
New Patrick Street CD "On the Fly"
According to Andy Irvine's website, this is supposed to be available in October 2007?
