Regional styles on CD?

Regional styles on CD?

Hi there, I've recently become interested in regional (local) musical styles of ITM (I'm from the US, btw), and have read some about it and have seen several discussions here regarding the styles of Donegal, Clare, Kerry, East Galway, Sligo, etc. But I'm wondering if there is/are a CD or CDs specifically aimed at giving a listener examples of such styles? Or perhaps my best bet would be to try to find individual artists considered representative of each region or style? Or is this all just a waste of time? (i.e., differences aren't pronounced anymore) Thanks a million, Pat ;)

Re: Regional styles on CD?

I asked the same question back when I first found this board, and I got some great answers:

Re: Regional styles on CD?

get the donegal fiddle cds.. there are 3 of them and they define regional styles brilliantly because they give a multitude of the best players from the same geographical region.. and naturally with only a small amount of stylistic similarity... there's very little in the concept of regional styles as far as i'm concerned because it's made up of individuals... nevertheless, they do exist and that collection posses a wonderful example.

Re: Regional styles on CD?

The Fiddle Sticks compilation CD released in the '90's had a good mix of regional styles.
