Happy Flautists???

Happy Flautists???

Neurology tells us that people with a pen between their teeth (bit style) will feel happier after a while than people without, this is because part of the brain takes its cues from facial features and adjusts our brain-juices accordingly.
Interesting eh?
Well, my question is this .... are flute players generally happier people because of all that pseudo-smiling mouth stretching that makes the brain think it's in the Playboy mansion and not sitting in a dingy corner puffing frantically into a wooden tube?
and remember .... SMILE!!!! and make your own day!!

Re: Happy Flautists???

The answer to everything is no; I play the flute and I'm a miserable bastard.

Maybe I'll try biting a pen instead.

Regards,

harry.

Re: Happy Flautists???

I think any happiness that arises is from the endorphins released when your face is cramping from the contortions required of it to form the embouchure.

Re: Happy Flautists???

I thought it was the other way around: although we have to pull our mouths into funny shapes, the one thing we can't do is really smile, otherwise the old embouchure goes. So we *train* ourselves to become humourless bastards. This may explain a thing or two.

Re: Happy Flautists???

I think you should ask Seamus Tansey.

And to be fair, probably Mike Rafferty too.

Re: Happy Flautists???

We who play keyless delrin or PVC flutes smile because we have the most maintenance-free instrument of all. And, after careful research, you CAN back your car over your delrin and not hurt it.
Try that, fiddlers!

Re: Happy Flautists???

Re: Happy Flautists???

I asked Tooty and we came to the conclusion it was more likely to be hyperventilation especially now there is a smoking ban here in the uk ;-)

Re: Happy Flautists???

Bail ó Dhia oraibh! Greetings to all.

I’m back in circulation computerwise and looking forward to catching up.

It’s very easy to play the flute and smile, even laugh without losing one’s embouchure. Many people have commented on it, and I’ve seen enough flute players do it.

Maybe that’s the difference, I’m just a flute player!

Re: Happy Flautists???

Most flute players were bottle fed as a baby its been proven and their choice of instrument is an attempt to compensate not being bounced enough on their mothers knee as a child. Don't get me going about the penis envy conotations. I totally made this up. God, I'm bored.

Show me a young man that does not want a breast in his mouth and I'll show you a natural born Riverdancer.

Re: Happy Flautists???

I'm happy because I gave up the fiddle. It makes me happy to play an instrument with real notes in it.

Re: Happy Flautists???

Lack of oxygen to the brain: Maybe we are happier... stupidly so.

Happiness is overrated; give me contentment (as in "...is Wealth") any day.

Regards,

H.
