Tullamore..World spoon rattling convention!

Tullamore..World spoon rattling convention!

I was in Oconnors on sunday, a classjob sesiun was flying when this woman (of a certain age) barged her way in and took a prime stool, made a big fuss of fumbling in her handbag and eventually produced a set of soup spoons. she rattled and banged for a couple of sets then left as quickly as she arrived, doubtlessly walking up the street knowing she had just "contributed" to the sesiun.

Spoons indeed!

Now i ask you, what is wrong with the good old traditional shaky eggs?

Re: Tullamore..World spoon rattling convention!

Perhaps she was trying to set a record. Didn't someone here say Tullamore had 80 pubs?...Starting at 8, finishing at 12, she could play the spoons for three minutes in each. If there are only 40 pubs, that's six minutes in each. Mind, my maths is shaky.

I'll have to ask the local spoons players if they've ever tried soup spoons. Sounds a good idea to me.

I hear the pre-WW2 spoons have the best tone.

Re: Tullamore..World spoon rattling convention!

I use soup spoons given to me by a friend - I have the handles all taped up so it's easier to play and produces a less tinny sound. I've tried others, including wooden ones, but none are as good as these so far.

On Saturday night, I gave a tambourine player at Lynch's such an evil look that I never heard the jingle again!

These beginner spoon players just rush into everything. I keep telling them that they must start with 1 and after a year or so they can move up to the full set then...

Maybe Buddhist traditional music includes the sound of one spoon playing.

Yaks mooing...glaciers melting...eagles floating by...prayer wheels tintinabulating...and the sound of one spoon playing...
