I'm maid of honor in a friend's outdoor wedding September 8th, and she wants me to play something when she's walking down the aisle. I play Irish wooden flute, and my friend is Irish/Scottish descent, so she wanted me to play something "pretty and Celtic". I'm assuming I might be playing the postlude as well, but I'm not sure.
Does anyone know any good tunes for walking down the aisle? I'm contemplating a slip jig (Talamh an eisc), but that might not be great for walking to?
I just couldn't resist, here's my list:
The Hag with the Money, Get Up Old Woman and Shake Yourself, The Five Mile Chase, Fasten the Leg In Her, Drive The Golden Spike, Drink the Rest and Hide the Bottle, Do you Want Anymore?, Come Upstairs with Me, The Broken Pledge, Ask My Father, The Torrid Romance, Tell her I Am, The Reconciliation, The New Broom, Lucky In Love, Ladies 2nd Choice, I Buried My Wife and Danced on her Grave, The Honeymoon, and the number one all time wedding tune is..........................
THE BOY IN THE BUSH !!!

Surely the venue, occasion and your instrument are crying out for a slowish air? I did a couple for my own daughter's wedding. I think I did Coilsfield House.
I must point out that the Scottish bit is "ascent" as a Scot never descends.
Oh, and for a tune you could play "The chicken's last walk to the woodheap"
If you don't have the CD, drop me a line thru this site and i'll send you the track. it's truly a majestic tune. it could be played to great effect with the organ: you could start on flute, then the organ could crank it up when the bride walks down the aisle. or perhaps the organ could play when they exit. i plan on using it in my wedding, if i ever get married.
"Haste to the Wedding" is a nice jig. I played it once with a fiddle player for a wedding at Kew Gardens. We walked behind the couple playing the tune while they walked through the gardens on the way to the reception.
Had a similar experience where myself (box) and a flute player were asked to play Traditional type tunes at a wedding in one of those very old small Irish churches. We played O'Carlon's Concerto' as the couple came up the aisle and 'Give me your hand' as they went down the aisle. In between we played 'Come by the hills/Fanny Powers/Lord Inchiquinn/Planxy John Irvine/Innisheer. They loved it. We resisted the temptation to play 'Help me make it through the night.
How about Emma & Jamie's Wedding by John McCusker. It's pretty and celtic and it'll get all the family greeting. It would be better if you had a fiddle playing with you but I think it would work on solo flute as well.

Re: Flute tunes for a wedding?
My daughter got wed a month back and asked me to play for her walking in.
She asked me to play Limerick's Lamentation.
So I did.
Though I say so myself, it was lovely.

You're going to want to check out 'Fort of the Fairy Queen' as played by Larry Nugent in 'Two for Two': http://thesession.org/recordings/display/159

'The Sunset' played as a slow reel would be nice, in my opinion.
Blessings,
