On flicking through the Accordion section on E-Bay i noticed that they don't have a different category for Piano and Button Accordion.
If they did it would be a lot easier to navigate wouldn't it?
Or maybe i should be telling E-Bay instead.
I bought a very good PA off ebay. (it smells a bit musty, but plays like a dream), but while searching i did find a peculiar thing.
the right half of a saltarelle melodeon stuck to the left half of a hohner melodeon.
Most of the instruments come from foreign countries. (mine came from germany) and some confusing translations can occur. one instrument was claimed to "no smell bad".!
He is right. There is a certain Karma to the aroma. But those old boxes that people kept in damp basements for years?
I had a PA that was kept in an old house cellar-one step above catacombs- It took three years to get the smell out. My wife said that my shirts would smell like it.
I finally had the the repairman take it apart and really clean it completely. He made alot of jokes about where it had been.
I bought a new button two years ago and the aroma is very nice.
I don't know if I'm right on this, but I'd be afraid of a musty box. If there's any dampness inside the bellows wouldn't it cause corrosion on the reeds?
Is there a kind soul who might help a non-musician properly describe an Irish button accordion? There is no one in my area who plays or knows anything about this instrument that I have been able to find to help me. I will be marketing a Bardoni & Bartoli Irish button accordion on Ebay as part of an estate that I'm selling on consignment for a family...and I want to do it justice and provide the accurate and correct information that a potential buyer/musician would want to know about it. I agree that many descriptions are horrible and would like to do better! I don't even know enough to determine the tuning. What info should I provide in the description? What photos are critical? Would a simple sound clip of the individual accordion keys during push/pull be helpful? I would sincerely appreciate any help you folks are willing to give! Times like these make me wish I'd stuck with my childhood music lessons!

half the sellers don't seem to know whether they've got a PA, button box /melodeon, concertina etc anyway ... Should we confuse them even more?

I think it was Frank Zappa who once said: The important thing about the accordion is the way the air smells when it comes out of it.

I agree with spindizzy, having the category doesn't mean people are going to correctly label their items.
If you're searching, remember to search for "squeezebox" too.

I've taken it apart and it just seems to be the material on the inside of the case giving it the "pre loved" aroma.

I think piano accordions are sold under "JCB" in the heavy plant section
