I'm trying to find out more information on Jimmy Clay, the subject of a song of the same name. To the best of my knowledge he was a Scottish soldier who fought in world war 2 ( maybe ww1 ?). Any info. on him and the background to the song would be welcome. Thanks.
I think it was written by a man called Pat Sky. Recorded by Mike Whellans on "Aly Bain & Mike Whellans", around 1967.
Mike is the only person I ever heard sing it. There may be infomation on the sleeve notes, but it's quite a rare album to find these days.

Re: Jimmy Clay
Have you checked the Mudcat.org? Best place to find out anything on a song of any tradition...
