Tomorrow I will be Playing for the Cunningham family from Connemara. They are seanòs dancers.I want suggestions on sets. The tunes Ill play are The New Mown Meadows,Miss Mclouds,Sally Gardens,Galway Rambler and Miss Monaghan.
For Jigs the Connaghtmans Rambles,An Rogaire Dubh and The Wailing Banshee.
Any suggestions on sets from these tunes would be appreciated.
Thanks
As well, if they've been at it for any length of time, while they may be able to dance to 'anything', or just about, most sean nos dancers have their favourites tune-wise...
Hope you had a great time playing for the Cunninghams! They're lovely dancers.
As a dancer myself, I just wanted to reiterate that it is always a good idea to check in with sean-nos dancers. Everyone is different. Some folks prefer dancing to a set of tunes while others like to dance until they feel done and then cue the musician in the last eight bars. And as you probably found, the Cunninghams are an exception as well, since they dance pieces together, which is quite uncommon in the sean-nos dancing community.
And yes, Miss McCloud's and the Connaughtman's Rambles are always safe bets! I think they're the official favorites of sean-nos dancers!

Re: Playing for Seanòs Dancing....
Have you asked the dancers? Some 'sean nos' dancers prefer not to have sets at all but just to dance to the one tune at a go...

Re: Playing for Seanòs Dancing....
Play simple tunes with good rhythm. Single reels are often good.

Five Mile Chase
Galway Rambler
Blackberry Blossom
Battering Ram
Sligo Maid
Bag of Spuds
The Tamlin
