This was my first Swannanoa Gathering, and all that I can say about it is WOW! What a week!
First, the campus of Warren Wilson College is just georgeous. It is nestled in the mountains of western North Carolina, just east of Asheville. Most of the Staff and Students stayed in the dorms on campus, but we decided to stay off-campus, but dine in the cafeteria.
The cafeteria food was excellent. There was always a meat and vegetarian entree. Beef and most vegetables were grown at the college the rest were locally produced. This was the best food value anywhere!
The Students, just over 300 of us, were from all over the world, and had all levels of skill. All were very friendly, helpful, and supportive. We met some lovely folks, and I am looking forward to seeing and playing with them next year.
The Staff: What a collection of talent! I took Fingerstyle Celtic Guitar with Robin Bullock, and Bodhran 1 with Stephanie Johnston. I will have enough to keep me occupied for at least the next year!
The music was everywhere, and you could join in any of the jams, and nobody cares if you make a mistake.

I was at Swannanoa last week ,for the 3rd time......great teachers, and great music...I studied Irish and Scottish fiddle,,with a little harp thrown in with Grainne Hambly,,,,,,,great week,,,,,,,,,I recommend it,,,I have enough work to keep me going for the next 6 months..........

ellieny, I think we may have been roomies. I was in Pete Clark's class, Jack Beck and Margarett Bennett's.
A wonderful 2nd time for me too. Will be back next year.
oops, haven't been on for days so I think I missed the boat...but this was my 4th year and hopefully I'll be back next year again! I took Margaret Bennett's, Aoife Clancy's, and Gerry O'Connor's classes. They were AWESOME! as always. Made fabulous friends (and caught up with old fabulous friends) and managed to avoid getting in the pond...all around FANTASTIC week!
This was my second and I brought my family this time. There are so many really great people, from students to instructors to the Swannanoa Staff. It was fantastic. I actually had more fun this time than I did last year...and last year was a BLAST! Took Jamie Laval and Seamus O'Connor's classes and got so much out of them. See everyone next year!
