Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

Hi,

I'm looking for the accordion player that was playing in the back of Cleary's pub in miltown on firday night, his sister plays the banjo. Thanks for letting us play a few tunes with you. Get back to me if you see this.

Anyone else there that night?

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

I wasn't there but, by your description, it sounds like you might mean Seán Óg Graham.
His sister is Bronagh; they're both great musicians.

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

*waves* I was playing pipes until my fingers bled back there.

I don't think it was Sean Og on the box, 'cause he and I would have recognized one another. I didn't know who he was.

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

Are you the girl that was falling asleep near the end of the night next to the guy on the tin whistle?

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

Seán Óg isn't from Longford in any case but comes from Antrim.

Looked in there myself on Friday night but it was so crowded there was no hope of getting a seat. I recognised Siobhán O'Donohue (a marvellous banjo and fiddle player who sometimes plays with the Turloughmore and Kilfenora Céilí bands) playing in the session at the time.

Such a load of touts. You have no idea why Banjaxed wants this person, but you grassed him up in seconds.

Shame on you.

ROFL. Yes, I was falling asleep towards the end there. And trying to block out the crazy and utterlu bolloxed whistle player who joined the session at the end.

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

I thought you where from the states TheSliverSpear, your accent sounded american to me are you the same girl I wonder? I'm the guy that was wearing the hat and trying to play the banjo to the tunes I knew. The guy next to you on the tin whistle was a fine player and the girl that came along later I couldn't really hear her playing to judge but one thing for sure she played about 20 reels one after another.

Nice playing with you anyway there was a lovley sound off the pipes. That place was way to loud don't you think?

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

Yeah, that was me. I'm from the States originally, though living in England at the moment.

There was a banjo choir at one point later -- like four banjos -- in the evening and I can't recall who was wearing a hat and who wasn't.

The whistle player next to me was one of the whistle teachers at the festival. So yeah, he was good . :)

The place was way too loud, but we were well protected in the kitchen from the madness that was the rest of the town. When I finally ventured out of the pub at about half one, I got a lift to my B&B from a friend in his car and we had people running up to the car and banging on the hood and such. It was fun.

No good. Can't work it out. What is ROLF?

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

I was sitting directly accross from you when we were in the kitchen. You would have slept there in the kitchen if you had a pillow and sleeping bag I'd say:)

The town was crazy but like you said it was a good laugh. Ya there was a lot of banjos at the other side of the pub.

Are you back in England now or still floating round Ireland?

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

Were you the banjo sitting right next to the box player?

I was nearly falling over by the end. I got settled in my safe little corner and decided I couldn't face the masses in the pub or the town, so my dinner was that pint the house bought us. I think after no sleep or food my playing was seriously deteriorating in the last hour. :) Otherwise I really enjoyed that session.

I'm back in England now.

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

Yes that was me next to the box player sorry I didn't get to speak to you more at the session but I could hardly hear myself speak it was so loud in there.

You hung in there anyway fair play to you if it was me I'd be gone to sleep:) That's what it's all about though it's only once a year and you'd be sorry if you missed out I'd say.

What part of america are you from and how did you get into Irish music?

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

I could hardly hear myself play it was so loud in there.

Part of those festivals is always seeing how far you can push yourself before you actually just fall over. Next one I will do the same thing, of course. No learning curve to speak of. :)

I'm from Colorado and I got into Irish music because it seemed like a good idea at the time. I really haven't a better reason.

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

Did you happen to get any photos of that session sliverspear? I know the guy playing the tin whistle took a few alright but I wouldn't say he's on thesession.org.

Might see you again next year hopefully and I'll be brushed up on my banjo playing because I haven't played in about a year and a half, just took the banjo down to see what happens even if I played one tune in a session I'd be over the moon so I'm pretty happy anyway.

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

The whistle player is in fact on thesession.org. He posts as Peter Piper. Was he taking photos? I didn't notice.

The only photo of it I took was of Dan playing the kaen.

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

There was a wicked sound off the kaen and that guy really knew how to play them.

Re: Looking for box player in back of Cleary's friday night.

Than you a thousand times, Char B, you have restored my faith in the entire US of A as a nation. Mind you, Silver Spear and Banjaxbanjo are too occupied with Internet flirting to even notice my question.
