Fiddle Teacher sought (Cambridge UK)

Fiddle Teacher sought (Cambridge UK)

I am totally new to the fiddle. I'd like to take a few lessons initially
to find out whether I'm up to it and so as not to pick up bad habits from the word go. So if there's anybody out there teaching
folk fiddle in or around Cambridge, please make yourself known to me. I thank you.
Paul

Re: Fiddle Teacher sought (Cambridge UK)

Just gleaned this bit of info from over on the Comhaltas site which may help and if you can locate Josephine Nugent, she's a great fiddle player:

Lessons take place every Wednesday night at the Rathmore Club, Cambridge with monthly sessions. The branch currently is offering lessons in fiddle, button accordion, bodhrán, banjo and tin whistle.

Re: Fiddle Teacher sought (Cambridge UK)

I teach intermediates+, Josie (an outstanding teacher and fiddle player) teaches intermediates and advanced, and a lady called Sharon Durie is brilliant with the beginners. If you join up, you'd probably get Sharon.

This wednesday is the last time we meet before September, so If you come along to the Rathmore Club on Cherry Hinton Rd from about 8 onwards, you'd get to meet us all before the summer break =)

Thanks,Paul

Re: Fiddle Teacher sought (Cambridge UK)

Kathleen Nesbitt's Irish Fiddle Tutor is probably the best buy you can get for a beginner fiddler - wish it was around 40 years ago! It includes all that you need to know from holding the fiddle to the rudiments of music, ornamentation and some great trad tunes. There's also a CD to go with the book where much of this is demonstrated.

Full details are given at http://www.traditional-direct.com/learn_to_play_fiddle.html.
