There have been some great topics for discussion on TheSession. Occasionally I will see one & tell myself, "Tonya - here we have a poster who did not do a search prior to submitting." Now I do not like to point fingers. But I did search a topic which came up at least three times in the past month. You know what the results were? '1 - 10 of 44,558!'
Now you tell me - in the past month do you think someone could have added their comment to an already existing thread?
Cheers
The system in this discussion area is difficult to follow. I would prefer a system by where the most recent post bumps the thread to the top. This, I believe, would keep more threads alive and possible even (eg The Irish Music Quiz). In turn, I would say that it would reduce the number of repeated topics of discussion. Just my two cents.
perhaps you have too much time on your hands tonya. it seems to me that your complaining about having to sift through repetitive discussions, yet now you post a discussion about them, and even search for them. rather masochistic, if you ask me. plus, hasn't this topic been discussed recently as well?
Is this a discussion thread about threads that are about threads which are about threads?
Brilliant. How interesting. And there was me thinking, going by the title, it might be something excruciatingly boring like what contributors think might be the futurefor traditional music. I'm so relieved. This is so mindbogglingly interesting that I don't think I can cope with all this interestingness, so I'm sure you'll forgive me if I am too stunned by it all to be able contribute any further.
...Except to say, it was so interesting that my head fell off and rolled down the hill onto the South Circular Road. Then a bus came along and squashed it flat. When I retrieved and put my head back on, it was so long and flat that when I tried to talk all the words came out fuonny aaonnd maaode moee taolk aoll fuonny aaond lo-o-ong souondiong. Thonks foor tho onterestiong threod.
Key, you're a maniac, lad. With a sqaushed head like that, your view is likely to be a tad distorted. And here was me thinking I was going to find some relevation on this thread about the future of ITM, not some stats from the past and a squash headed flutier. Stats can say whatever you want them to say - damn lies usually, and, well ... KML (if I've remembered it right) breeds fruit flies!! So what if some threads are regurgitated and somewhat maggotty - there are newbies here who haven't heard it all before - do you have to have recovered so many hundred or thousand old threads before you can contribute?
Tonya, are you expecting mere mortals to be innovating and foretelling the future of ITM? None of us are next generation, because the next generation hasn't been born yet.
Non-bumping is deliberate on this board, as I understand it. It keeps things moving on, more like a real discussion. If a few people want to disappear into the distance on their own little topic that's fine but it doesn't monopolise for everyone else.
The point is someone starts a discussion & it becomes exactly like a real discussion. No one knows where it started. The topic is lost to the next generation.
But it's no big deal and only a couple of mouse clicks away to look at the latest comment(s) and if it looks interesting click it then scroll up to the top of the discussion. I think anyway.
Actually I love TheSession & am forever grateful to Jeremy.
This site is the best source for sessions. I do not wish Jeremy (or any of us) to start changing things. There is room for improvement but sometimes you end up ruining a good thing. TheSession being a good thing. Excuse me for slipping into sentimentality but here goes. I just hope we are good stewards to the tradition. Quick someone say something funny!

Re: Next Generation ITM
OMG! That came up ever so recently.
When you open up discussions click on the comments tab.
That gives you the most recent post.
