Jaysus, would you look at the price of those PENNY whistles. I never even heard the tunes.

Just buying one the now - note though that that is $170 (equates to about £85) and is what a good whistle costs - less than many as well - you should check out the price of the rest - including those out-of-tune Chieftains!

My expensive one was £3.50, simply because it was a Guinness one.

Recently I liberated a Susato from a shop, liberated because he was charging £20.

But the generation whistles are still the best. No good paying £200 for a whistle to make it sound like a flute. Just buy a flute.

The trad whistle should sound a bit harsh.

Re: Michael Burke website - What are the tune names?

I wouldn't pay £200 for a whistle. But you don't pay more so they sound like a flute. You pay it so that they sound like an in-tune whistle that is playable and can reach the higher notes without killing the guy next to you. If the Generation whistles were the best then all the professional musicians would be playing them wouldn't they? But they don't. They play Overtons and Copelands, Burkes and Sindts, MKs and Chieftains - even if the non-tunable Chieftains have a tendancy to smell a bit!

Re: Michael Burke website - What are the tune names?

Back to the question at hand, I'm not sure of the first tune but the second one is "The Blackbird". It's a different version than the common set dance though. I learnt this as one of my first hornpipes about 2 years ago and the teachers said it was also called "The Sunny Banks".
