Looking for Irish Trad. Players in Central Jersey

Looking for Irish Trad. Players in Central Jersey

I play flute and fiddle and host a bi-weekly session at my house in Highland Park, NJ.

After my best friend died a year ago (who played mandolin, octave mandolin, melodeon) , my session is not what it was, and I have had a very difficult time finding non-guitar players interested in Irish music who live in Central Jersey.

Everyone seems to be in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, North Jersey, and in the Philly area. So, if anyone knows of any players in my area, I would love to know about it.

Thanks!

I don't know how far you are from Lambertville, but there is a session every 1st and 3rd Wednesday night of every month in Mitchell's Cafe on 11 1/2 Church St. Starts about 9:00 and goes till 11:30 or so. It is hosted by Harold Dunn an Irish music mover and shaker. You can contact him: hadunn@voicenet.com.
If it's too far, Harold would know who is in your area

Re: Looking for Irish Trad. Players in Central Jersey

Do you mean St Ouens' or St Helier ?
Oh, I get it, you mean NEW Jersey.........
As I often tell my SO ( who's from Long Island ), just before I duck, the problem with the US is that the place is so big they don't ever think outside their own boundaries.
Do you ever wonder why it's called NEW Jersey ? It's an interesting piece of history, going back to the Restoration ( of the English Crown, ie Charles II ).

guernsey pete

anyone looking up my name can easily see i'm from the usa.

i've lived abroad in europe and asia for 4 years, and am well aware of international geography and history, and don't require any attempt at edification on your part.

I know I'm an old pedant, but my father was from Jersey, and he never went over the bridge, or took the subway, into Manhattan, because no-one's ever built one that long !

Play nice, boys. I'm originally from New Jersey, and I know where M is coming from. Some of us are sensitive 'cause the place gets such a bad rap. Mostly very nice, though, despite the media image. Sorry I can't help you, I'm in NC now.

As a self-confessed "old pedant" who accuses Americans of not being able to think outside their own boundaries, you should not need to be reminded that Charles 2nd was King of the United Kingdom of GB etc. so it was the Restoration of the British, not just the English, throne. Sorry, couldn't resist it! Grumpy Old (Scots)man.

In addition, Jeff you would likely find a prospect for sharing a ride up to the Catskills Irish Arts Week there at the NJ session at the IAANJ night featuring Angelina Carberry and Martin Quinn.

Also try Molly Maguire's pub in Clark, on the first Sundays at 2pm. And there's a session sometimes at the Old Bridge FSOS on a weekend.
