Does anyone happen to know if it's possible (even though it's not desirable) to attend the workshop at Feakle Festival on the second day (Friday)? Or is it necessary to enrol on the first day (Thursday)?
Has anybody experience of the Denis Cahill's workshop - I know he's an amazing player but can he pass on information or knowledge to the musically challenged?
I went to a workshop with Denis Cahill and found it very interesting. I guess the problem is learning from someone who uses a different tuning from you and has a style all of his own. Even allowing for that I found his insights into rhythm and harmony very useful. I am never going to try to sound like or emulate D C even if I was capable, which I am not.
Denis uses standard (eadgbe) tuning and is pretty good at putting things across. He makes his class very interesting and the class is well worth taking. It doesn't really matter about the tuning, he is really teaching rhythm and harmony, broken and altered chords etc. In other words more theory than practical work. And no you don't need a degree in music to understand what he is saying, he makes it easy and you will get a lot from his class.
@floh yes you can sign up any day for as many days as you want.
so, i gather that it is ok for grownups to attend the workshops? i would love to attend the concertina classes, not that i have much hope of going this year....
Since nobody has said anything, I'll just add that there are adults (18+, even 50+) in the music classes, in general, including Mary McNamara's concertina class, though there are also a lot of kids. Definitely okay for grownups! She's accommodating for all levels and hers is a great and memorable class.
And, okay to take classes for all 3 days, or just individual days.
