Looking for a tune

Looking for a tune

I'm looking for the music to the unnamed reel that Planxty plays with the Jolly Beggarman on their "black album" (preferably in ABC format). Anyone out there know where I can find it on the Web?

P.S. - yes, I know I should try & learn it by ear, but for some reason i can't get my head/ears around this tune.

Thanks

SB

Re: Looking for a tune

I think from memory that this tune is called "All around the World" or "The Wise Maid"

Try this useful lonk: http://www.irishtune.info/finder.htm

Steve, if it *is* the Wise Maid you're looking for, click here for Jeremy's basic setting in abcs, sheet music, and midi:

Re: Looking for a tune

The tune is the Wise Maid, but it may not be best to learn it from this record, because if I remember correctly it's in G or C or something and everyone plays it in D (If I remember correctly) ...

Re: Looking for a tune

Thanks alot! I knew the tune sounded familiar, and it was driving me nuts. Funny thing is, I tried learning the Wise Maid some time ago, but in D and with somewhat different settings from the Planxty version, and never made the connection! Just did a quick once-over of the ABC notation at Henrik Norbeck's site and its all coming clear to me now!

Thanks again,

SB

Re: Looking for a tune

If I am not mistaken, the Planxty version is played on an Eb whistle. It took me a long time to figure that out when trying to play along with them.
