I like the fact that the opening ceremony begins with the 'blessing of the bodhráns'. Presumably, this removes any evil taints which might affect anyone 'playing' the drum?
people give out about bad bodhran playing and the same people then give about a bodhran festival that is there to improve bodhran playing. get a life lads
Bliss you would hate it . the judges last year were mel mercier and tommy hayes and its all that fancy sh*t they were looking for. This festival dosen't promote traditional bodhran playing.
"... you would hate it . the judges last year were mel mercier and tommy hayes and its all that fancy sh*t they were looking for." .... em, so it's just like the Fleadh competitions then is it, Saint?

Does that mean that because train-spotters gather together on the platform, that improves train-spotting?
They might just sit there in their anoraks, get their flasks out and talk shop.
World Bodhran Championships!
World Bodhran Championships!
For real, apparently.

Okay, I confess -- the possibility of fame and fortune is tempting me to come out of (bodhran) retirement . Especially the fortune part.
(Sorry if this has been posted before, but I looked and didn't find it.)

Re: World Bodhran Championships!
Tracie,
I just read on that site that Bodhran is the Irish word for deaf.
Perhaps a bit of irony there?
Sure did make me smile, thanks.

Re: World Bodhran Championships!
I like that they've added a "solo" category for "unaccompanied" bodhran. So it's unaccompanied accompaniment.

Re: World Bodhran Championships!
You know, I would so like to attend, but I believe I'm booked to be elsewhere that weekend.

Hope everyone who makes the effort to go has a good time.

Easy, saint, so far, we're all just having a bit of fun.
I'm hoping Stiofan will give us a first hand report--bound to be some good music and craic there.

Re: World Bodhran Championships!
Us bodhran players take or music serious.....................not like some.
Anyway i was there last year not bad could do with a few more melody players around the pubs.

Re: World Bodhran Championships!
I suppose that's one of the risks of advertising it as a bodhran-centric event--a paucity of melody players willing to chance it.

Re: World Bodhran Championships!
