Busking in New York - a report.

Busking in New York - a report.

Had a great time in New York over St. Patrick's weekend. We busked on the steps of the New York Library as people were going to the parade and after the parade, we busked on 5th. Ave just down from the Rockafella Centre. We played on the path and people collected around us but the cops did'nt move us. In fact they asked us to play certain tunes and songs that they knew. It was such a feel-good experience as everyone was in such great form and so generous. We also got to play in Jack Dempsey's pub on the same night. It was packed but great craic. Roll on St. Patrick's weekend next year. Also, we were allowed bring our instruments on board the plane which was great. We flew Continental.

I like the drumming, Ptarmigan.
Busking can be the best of times, and the worst of times.
Lilt is one of the lucky ones this time! :-)

Re: Busking in New York - a report.

Yeah I know star. I busked in Dublin myself, nearly every day for a year & I met some really interesting people, loads of musicians too, but busking in Dublin on a winters day is not always a bundle of laughs & I'm sure it can also be dangerous!

Re: Busking in New York - a report.

A friend went up to a subway busker recently.... he was very good, and she thought a certain pub might like to have him. She told the guy about it, and he asked what they pay... I think it was $125. The busker said she must be crazy, he can make up to 10X that in a day in the subway!

no kidding! I am in the wrong line of work!

Re: Busking in New York - a report.

I've heard about the New York Subway being a great place for (only) great buskers.
btw........ this particular thread is hiding........ where I have to search for it.
Maybe Jeremy's worried that we'll all scurry to the New York Subway with our instruments or something!
