What a weekend! In 2.5 days I have listened to stunning peformances by Lunasa, Kevin Burke & Paddy Keenan. Throw in great workshops by Kevin B and Eilish O’Connor and stunning concerts by Luka Bloom -what more could we ask for.
Lunasa were in fine form despite driving from Adelaide just prior to going on stage and had a huge crowd yelling for more. Kevin and Ged Foley played simply beautiful music - his touch on the fiddle is simply glorious. Paddy played breathtaking sets back superbly on guitar by Ben Stephenson of Aussie group Trouble in the Kitchen. A highlight was when the multi-talented Stephenson picked up his flute and played blinding set of reels with Paddy
We might live in the South-west corner of a far away land but we are blessed with regular visits by legends of ITM to this magnificent festival
Sounds great, wish I had been there. (Shouldn't that be south-east corner of a far away land )
It's not too late if you missed Port Fairy, you can also catch Kevin and Ged and Paddy and Ben at the Brunswick Festival over the next couple of weeks http://www.brunswickmusicfestival.com.au/
I would have loved to be at Port Fairy, but was compensated by being at WOMADelaide instead. Lunasa played two x 1 hr shows and a more intimate 'workshop' session where they fielded questions from the audience (about themselves, The Music and the instruments they play) usually followed by a tune set which demonstrated what they talked about. You'd struggle to find a more lovely, generous bunch of class ITM musicians IMHO.
ITM Feast at Port Fairy Folk Festival!
