Name of reels

I found this site with session recordings and can somenone please identify the three reels in the set called "Awsome Trio". It's from Muldoon's, played by Mellanie Nolley on fiddle etc. http://www.uptospeed.net/mp3/eskin/

Re: Name of reels

The first one is the Silver Spire. The last one might be a Reavy tune?

Re: Name of reels

The third tune is Frank's Reel by John McCusker:

Re: Name of reels

I think the second is Lad O'Beirnes - it opens Sharon Shannon's album "Each Little Thing".

Re: Name of reels

The bodhran is very annoying IMHO. He's just beating the
bejesus outta that poor goat and really didn't add a damn thing to the track, again IMHO>

Re: Name of reels

Anyway, that's what the album notes call it. But in the Tunes database, Lad O'Beirnes is an entirely different (jig) tune.

Re: Name of reels

Well Nicholas I found it in the base as Lad O'Beirne's

"He's just beating the bejesus outta that poor goat..."

There's a law against that, isn't there.

The whole thing sounds a bit thrashy to me. It sounds like they were playing in difficult acoustics and struggling to hear themselves.

Re: Name of reels

That's right, spoon, I was there at that session. It was a large, cavernous room. The minidisc microphone was on a chair next to the bodhrán player, and the fiddle and cittern were on the other side of the room. So apologies to Bjcomm if the audio mix doesn't meet his lofty standards. Next time we'll hire an audio engineer to record our pub session.

Yes, TradLad, it's the other Lad O'Beirne's. I'll tell Melanie she's got a fan when I see her this weekend. She'll be tickled. :-)

Re: Name of reels

Hmm, caught out by a scots tune. Isn't there a Reavey tune a little bit like that? Honestly, I don't like either one.
