Need help with posting tunes

Need help with posting tunes

I tried posting a tune but it showed up in abc, no sheetmusic. What should I do?

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Hi, cnfinley, and welcome to the session. You sound like a very nice young person. In fact, I know a young fiddler around here you'd make fast friends with. She plays in a ceili band with a hyperactive bodhran player. Pity she spends all of her time in pubs at such a young age, tsk tsk.

With regard to your tune, it usually takes about a day for Jeremy to convert the ABC to a gif to display the dots, so keep your britches on.... I'm sure it's a lovely tune, though. Sure hope I can hear someone play it sometime, like maybe next Saturday...

Again, welcome to the session, kindly young cnfinley.

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Haha, very funny Darin. Thanks. Hmm, can't imagine who that bodhran player could be. And he's not in either of the ceili bands, thank God. I can't imagine what those car rides up to New York would be like.

Speaking of New York, thanks so much for the ride on Wednesday. I had a great time. Sorry for falling asleep on the way home.

I'll probably see you on Saturday, unless some long lost relatives of mine show up at my house. After this weekend, I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Need help with posting tunes

If you don't know how to write out a tune in abc, look up LeSession on the web and find Steve Mansfield's abc tutorial. It's very comprehensive and quite easy to understand. If you get it wrong when submitting a tune to The Session database, the system won't come up with the sheet music. (Mind, it's perfectly possible to put it in correctly, get the sheet music, and still find you've made mistakes...)

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Thanks.

Darin, it's finally up in case you want a preview before Saturday. Go crazy.

Re: Need help with posting tunes

When you finish the submission process for a tune, you are presented with some text on screen. If you read the text, it explains exactly what will happen with the sheetmusic and soundfile:

"The tune is now online in ABC format. I will have sheetmusic and a soundfile for it online as soon as possible (usually within 24 hours)."

DK, you leave her alone, or I'll...I'll...POUND YOU!

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Oh yeah, grymater, look who's a real tough guy hiding behind an insulary screen name on an ersatz-anonymous user forum! Bring it on, cowboy! Or, should I say, come hither, you elitist Main Line yup!

;-P

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Wait, whose grymater?

Re: Need help with posting tunes

cnfinley, do my eyes deceive me, or is that a grammatical error in your post?

Re: Need help with posting tunes

I wouldn't mess with grymater, I heard he recently had one of his bosses mugged at work because the boss had insinuated that Grecian Formula would be a nice touch to his already young appearance as if the grey hair was going out of style.

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Sorry, Darin, it won't happen again.

Re: Need help with posting tunes

--Whoosh--

Man the tide is against me here, so it is. I issue one idle threat of playful, 1940's-style bodily harm in defense of a lady and I'm ruthlessly attacked from head to home.

Elitist? I don't have the fiber for such a title. However, I don't live in the shadow of Tesoros, and the one museum we have out here is being stolen by the likes of YOU, DK! Look my real name up in any phone book and you'll see why I get my screen names by slapping the keyboard randomly.

Bjcomm96, that's simply not true...if I mugged everyone who insulted my appearance I wouldn't have time to do anything else.

Hey, cnfinley, d'ja get any good Christmas gifts I should know about?

Re: Need help with posting tunes

A concertina, but it sounds like you already knew that. I have fiddle and banjo lessons on Sunday and I'm hoping that neither of my teachers know about it but who knows what Darin told Brian. Darin, you didn't tell him, did you?

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Groovey! (I found out about it by accident, but not from your Mum.) You'll love it!

Hey, my lips are sealed...

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Who'd you find out from?

Yeah, I'm loving it already. It's a lot easier than the fiddle.

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Hmm, I wonder who told grymater... would it be another of your silver spoon-sucking Main Line brethren? Perhaps he owns a whippet?

BTW CF, I took the liberty of calling both Brian and Eamon and let them know that your journey to the Dark Side is almost complete. Brian's reaction was predictable (something about shaving your head), but I didn't expect Eamon to burn you in effigy like he did...

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Don't let those string players steer you Cnfinley, they're very afraid you'll move on to "THE BIG RED MACHINE". We'll have an accordion band in Philly yet. THE TOWN IS RIPE FOR ONE.
I CAN SEE IT NOW, 50 accordions strapped to the front of clown suits walking up Broad St. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it, OH The JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Darin, if you did tell Brian, I'll let him know about you wanting to play the banjo.

If we're going to create an accordian band, why not a bodhran band. We have enough of them in Philly.

Re: Need help with posting tunes

You guessed right, DK. You owe it to your irascible prejudice against us 'burban folks. But please, give me some credit for my digs...I grew up on the edge of farmland and strip malls, so the Mail Line is actually a huge cultural step forward for me (I did live in Mt. Airy for a while, I'll have you know :-P). BTW, the stones you're throwing are hitting CF as well...step up, CF, together, I think we can take him! Battlefield: Fergie's!

BJ, I have that same dream of Broad St. just about every night...

Good luck with it, CF (not that you'll need any). Now that you're playing the 'tina as well, I look forward to the moment when you'll certainly surpass my ability and leave me sitting dejected, the instrument hanging from one hand, and the other holding the revolver to my temple. What model/tuning/setup is it?

Re: Need help with posting tunes

Yeah, Darin, lay off. I'm not even from the Main Line. I'm from North East Philly, it's not my fault I live where I live now. It might've had something to do with schools...
