Australian Tunes

Australian Tunes

I have been enjoying the floating carpoet and the only other Australian tune Ias opposed to song) I have is a "Shot ease" (sic) from Western Australia.

Does anyone have any more goodies fromthe Antipodes?

Re: Australian Tunes

Try the Wongawilli site! -

There are links to a couple of PDF documents with about 50 tunes.

Just from memory - not sure I'd class them as Australian Tunes, but they were all written here in Brisbane, so perhaps I should...

And I'd second the Wongawilli recommendation - their CD of Aussie bush tunes includes the sheet music. If only all artists would do that!

Irish tunes in Australia

You might want to have a listen to a CD called 'UNDERTONES - Irish Music from Australia' http://thesession.org/recordings/display/2011

There are many interesting Australian dance tunes, but they're not really in the contemporary 'trad irish' style. Are you interested in these too? Most of the old tunes I've heard are more 'english country dance' style and some are played in english tune sessions.
