My brain knew it but my fingers didn't, so I tried it in A Dorian. It felt better there, so I transposed and searched my ABC files. It's "Winnie Hayes'".
Ah! From thesession's Home page search tab, searching for "Mary Custy" finds this about halfway down the page:
The Session: Tunes - Winnie Hayes' (jig)
You can watch and listen to Mary Custy playing it in the flute-friendly key: http://www.custysmusic.com/mall/CustysTraditionalMusicShop/donal_lunny.htm ...
Awesome Gary! I knew someone would come along and save me from my anguish...
Funny, I played with the search for a good while and came up with nothing, but then again, Im a fool.
Searching is tricky. I tried a few variants of the first two bars in Google and came up blank. I did the same on my computer with my ABC files. Then I tried the first few bars on the concertina and came up blank. That was a very strong hint that it must be in a different key, considering how familiar the tune was. A dorian was the obvious choice. From there it was easy.
Yet another tune identification question
Yet another tune identification question
I've been trying to figure out where I know this tune from, its very familiar, and a great tune. The first of the two that Donal Lunny and Mary Custy play in this video.

Thanks!

Re: Yet another tune identification question
The opening of the A part takes me right into the Cordal Jig (aka Julia Clifford's), but they're not one and the same.
Mary polishes up the Battering Ram, too.

Re: Yet another tune identification question
Thanks whoosis, I had tried transcribing it and sticking it in the advanced search, but to no avail.

Re: Yet another tune identification question
SI, I tried that too, plus googled several bits of the abcs, and came up with no match.
Great tune though!

Re: Yet another tune identification question
Sounds like a shortened variation of the Monaghan Jig.

In fact, this very question is answered in the comments:
http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/797 ! Not that it would be easy to find.

Well done Gary!
I even knew it was on the New Road by Piggot and Harrington, but you are too fast for me!

Re: Yet another tune identification question
Good on you Gary. I was tempted to try a different key, but had a session to get to tonight. Thanks for clearing this up!
