Embarrassing situation lastnight

Embarrassing situation lastnight

There we were having the usual a few tunes and the odd song nothing too heavy, sitting on the table next to us were about 8 mature irish students well so you would think anyway. As the night grew on they got a little braver and louder asking for "kill the brits" music not just your usual sean south's and foggy dews but more like little armalite and go on home british soldiers, coming near to the end of the night the barman come up and whispered call it a night now these lot are a little too loud. We went to finish off with a reel and they took the first few notes and stood up singing soldiers song at the top of their voices some in gaelic and some in english then stormed out of the pub slamming the door to the point where it nearly smashed the glass. Now we had some friends and family and some outsiders invited down and they are of mixed denomination, not that it affects the way we play in any way, and they were mortified to see that these idiots still try to keep the fire burning, its these irish people in London that make it awkward for the placid types who are just easy going but unfortunatly get tarred with the same brush and labelled f'ing thick paddy's

What's more worrying is that these are teachers, I would love to have filmed it and sent it to the local authoritys and the schools heads just to show what lovely people they have working with kids.

Re: Embarrassing situation lastnight

I'd suggest that this a case where the pub manager could, perhaps should, have taken action earlier to tell these guys that their behaviour was disruptive/upsetting to other customers (that includes the musicians), and chuck 'em out forthwith.
In his pub the publican's word is law. If he doesn't want someone in his pub he can turn them out and doesn't have to say why. I remember a couple of such occasions. On one, a drunk woman was singing politically embarrassing songs about the USA, and thoroughly disrupting the flow of the session. She and her partner were asked to leave. On another occasion a couple of drunks came up to our resident lead singers who were doing a medley of songs and shouted at them to sing something else. Those drunks have never been back since.

I'm with lazyhound. I think the publican should have told the hyped-up drunks to call it a night a lot earlier in the evening.

Re: Embarrassing situation lastnight

Exactly. I've seen it all too often where a pub governor leaves his duties in the hands of the sesion/band. Recently in a known session pub down here (NOT the BHT), the governor came up to me between tunes and said "there's more musicians than customers" as if it was our fault not his. All that kind of stuff is purely down to the governor, not the musicians.

Re: Embarrassing situation lastnight

Apart from the song lyrics, how exactly did the behaviour of these people differ from the sort of behaviour you'd expect from their English counterparts?

Is this thread supposed to follow on from the last one? http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display/11800

Re: Embarrassing situation lastnight

Just remind the Landlord that he can have his license revoked for serving drunks.
