We are holding the Packie Duignan week-end in Drumshanbo in January 2007, 26th, 27th, 28th and this event is posted in the Events section. Just wondering if anyone here has any pictures, stories etc., about Packie. We intend to hold a late breakfast/lunchtime session with chat and stories about Packie (and there are many) and if anyone has anything to add we would be delighted to include it.
One of my favourites was at a session in Drumshanbo one time. Packie arrived in with his 'three piece wallet' and started to assemble it, giving it a liberal dousing of porter from his glass before tipping the contents back into the glass! A few German tourists asked if he could play 'Annie's Song' and after the requisite wee whiskey being purchased by the said germans he proceeded to play the tune with more flourish than Mr Galway - taking the hand out of the musically illiterate germans. While they roared their approval we nearly wet ourselves laughing at Packie's rendition. A great man, and a wonderful flute player!
thanks for your help. Never met Packie myself . Only started to go to Drumshanbo year after he died but down the years have heard countless people talk with great affection of Packie. Hope to see ye at the week-end. We have had this week-end unofficially for a while and there is always a great Northern fluting contingent in attendance.

I have a story about Packie which might take a bit to recollect in a concise way but will do it sooner but not later than January..
