A session in Leicester?

A session in Leicester?

Hi everyone

I've just moved to Leicester in the last month or so and have been sussing out the irish music sessions around and about. Anyway, it has been suggested to me that it would be a nice idea to run a regular irish tunes session in Leicester, as a lot of the sessions around are mostly singarounds which doesn't do much for the poor tune players like myself. Obviously, we don't want the session to clash with anything else. I know there are sessions on wednesday and comhaltas have one on the 1st friday of the month so other than that I don't know of any other restrictions. Of course if anyone can suggest any other bad days that would help as I'm still finding my feet around here! But just generally what do people think of this idea? It would probably end up being located in one of the pubs near leicester uni as I'm in halls at the uni.
Please let me know if you think this is a good/rubbish idea!
Thanks
Roisin

Re: A session in Leicester?

I suggest you come along to the Comhaltas session this Friday - you'll meet a lot of local players and it is mostly tunes. It's usually a good night!

I don't know of any other regular sessions than the Wednesday one you mention. Though there used to be a Sunday aftenoon session at a city centre pub - I don't know if it's still going though.

Hope to see you on Friday!

Re: A session in Leicester?

Hi Roisin welcome to Leicestershire! I hope you settle in well and find the people friendly. I don't know much about city centre sessions, but if you have transport there are one or two I know of in the surrounding villages.
