rick epping has been traveling with the dervishes anyone seen them
Rick epping is a relative of mine and I was looking him up and found this page and was wondering if anyone had seen him lately. Last time I saw his ma she told me he was touring for a brief spell with the dervishes?

I saw Triple Harp Bypass—consisting of Rick, Mick Kinsella, Brendan Power and Martin Dunlea on guitar—organised by the Seamus Ennis Centre, Naul, north Dublin during the summer. A very affordable fifteen Euro.
It was one of the best concerts I've ever been at. Such talented musicians! Each man came in with a box full of harmonicas. During one tune, Rick placed the box on his knee, played with one hand and kept picking up different instruments (in the correct key) with the other. He'd then do a quick changeover in the middle of the tune!
Along with the others, Rick was very funny and talkative on stage. All in all, great music played by friendly and approachable musicians.
I hadn't heard Rick play live before but I've followed his music since Pumpkinhead days.
By the way there's a Triple Heart Bypass album by the same name. They were selling it at the concert but I don't know if it's available commercially.

Heard Mr Epping in Miltown Malbay in a few sessions and in my opinion he ruined the session with his rock and roll, brash harmonica playing. Not a patch on Pip and John Murphy from Carrick on Bannow. Now their playing is only sublime

Mick Kinsella, Rick Epping & Seamie O'Dowd
Thu 26 October
8pm
Multi-instrumentalist Mick Kinsella plays harmonica and concertina. He is highly respected in the traditional music world as well as in jazz, rock and blue grass. Mick is much sought after at home and abroad and has recorded on over 50 albums. Mick was greatly influenced by the late Eddie Clarke and regularly teams up with fellow harmonica players Rick Epping and Brendan Power.
Rick Epping began the harmonica in California, playing old-time, blues and Irish music. During much of the '70s and '80s, Rick lived in Ireland where he was a member of ‘Pumpkinhead’ and later played with Johnny Moynihan. An All-Ireland Harmonica champion, Rick also plays concertina, mandolin, 5-string banjo and jaw harp.
A spirited and popular performer Seamie O'Dowd, ex-Dervish, is a multi -instrumentalist extraordinaire. Playing fiddle, harmonica and guitar with equal ease Seamie plays rock, blues or traditional music.

Met and heard Rick play in a lovely session at Sligo Live festival in Nov last year.
He is one of the nicest and most down to Earth guys you could meet. He loves playing music so much.
One of my favourite harmonica players.
Heard him do a gig with Jarlath McTiernan, Shane McAleer, and Michael Holmes a few months ago too in Carrick on Shannon.
They were simply outstanding!

I saw Rick Epping and Mick Kinsella in Milltown Malbay this summer at Willie Week. They were amazing!! It was so cool to see. Rick played harmonica and concertina at the same time, it was awesome.

Rick's father was an amazing concert pianist and Rick and his brother Fred would sit under the piano when I was really young and watch the notes hit. His brother Fred is also an amazing musician, also a virtiouso in the instruments he plays.

I heard recently that he's gigging with Mick Kinsella and another harmonica-player.
Our local music festival couldn't afford them! :(
