Question on Submitting Arrangements

Question on Submitting Arrangements

With the discussions on what sorts of things to submit for tunes, what is the policy/accepted-behavior on posting arrangements of traditional tunes (both harmonizations and countermelodies)?

Re: Question on Submitting Arrangements

The best way to show some harmony or countermelody would be to submit a tune with the ABC notation first showing the basic tune and then (perhaps separated with the words "Variations") add the fancy stuff.

For tunes already in the archive, you can post harmonies and countermelodies in the "comments" for that tune.

Re: Question on Submitting Arrangements

A counter-melody is a melodic line which moves independently of, but forms counterpoint, or, if you like, harmony with the main melody. The proper meaning of 'harmony' is a chord progression - which may or may not be a by-product of adding a counter-melody. But, as we know, in Irish Traditional Music, there are no hard and fast rules, and hte two terms are used, more or less interchangeably, for anything which is not played in unison with the principal melody.
