What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

Am currently digitising my CD collection, and been confronted by some truly appalling choices I have made over time.

The Best Ever Irish Album has to among my worst. A bizarre mix of trad, rock and pop - that sort of sounds like what happens when my 14 year old puts his CD's along with mine in the CD stacker and then selects 'random'.

So confess to your worst cd possession...and why do you hold on to it?

"An Irish Christmas" by James Last & his Orchestra

Or maybe "An Irish Christmas II" by James Last & his Orchestra

No actually I think its James Galway & Margo
"Irish Ceili Country Music."

i bought a compilation cd billed as traditional irish accordion, but it turned out to be maudlin pop-meetsshow-band, the category i like to call "shamrock schlock."

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

Too many to mention and I have got rid of some over the years. Often, I'll keep some for one or two tracks.

My most embarassing 45 rpm record I bought (Irish as well) was a Val Doonican single in 1965. I still have it too!!!! as, when I gave a few of worst ones away during the late sixties, nobody would take it. :-(

Delaney's Donkey? Paddy McGinty's Goat?

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

"I'm gonna get there somehow" which was one of his more mainstream efforts. I think Paddy McGinty's Goat would have had more credibility. ;-)

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

Jamie Smith's debut solo cd. Rubbish!

:o)

Only joking - the exact opposite is true, as anyone who has heard it will testify.
I think I've got one called The Best of Irish Rebel Songs or something like that. The name doesn't quite prepare you for the sheer drivel that masquerades as music on this thing. I sometimes put it on when I want a laugh.

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

If we get to count CDs put out by our friends in the local community, my wife and I have a few of those in our collection.

Old Lead by Boiled in Lead would be my candidate otherwise. [Cringe]

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

What a coincidence. I just got a random CD in the mail from my local public radio station for a contribution I made. I put it in the car, hoping that it would keep me awake on a late night trip. Boy, did it. Called Buckdancer's Choice by Wake the Dead. Aaaargh. I wanted to kill these people after two tracks.

The band does Grateful Dead tunes with a "Celtic Interpretation". [Shudder] This is one of those fusions that just doesn't do much for me. They have competent musicians and singers with great voices, but they should just decide what they are doing. They are playing a great set of jigs then all at once someone starts wailing some totally random lyric that doesn't seem to have anything to do with the music.

I hope I haven't offended any Grateful Dead fans here......

Oh, KC, I have some of those CDs. Someone handed me one with soft-focus howling wolves on the cover. I smiled nicely and thanked her.......

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

Christy Moore's original LP called something like "Paddy on the Road". Absolutely dreadful, but worth about £300 on e-bay.

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

It will be "Bodhran Moods" as soon as it's released. I can't see myself buying it new, though. So, it'll have to be available in a charity shop sometime in the future. ;-)

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

I've held on to the Milli Vanilli recording all these years for just this sort of discussion.

What do I win!?

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

Ok Batlady... I know everyone that's in that band and I'm telling!!!

Actually, I do know everyone in that band, but I also agree with your review. I've played tunes with just about all of them; the harp player is an extended member of the band I play with, and I've worked with the guy who put the band together, as well as having the privilege to call him my friend. You're right -- they're all very good musicians -- that's not the problem. Here’s what the problem for me is: 1) I stopped paying attention to the Grateful Dead in about 1970, and 2) I'm a huge fan of ITM. This ends up having two big strikes against me ever being able to appreciate what they’re doing. I don't recognize most, or almost all, of the songs, and the ITM tunes seem out of place to me when they go in and out of the song. But for Dead fans who aren't familiar with ITM -- it rocks! It’s their favorite Dead songs with weird Celtic stuff mixed in – far out man! ‘Wake the Dead’ enjoy a fairly decent amount of success out here in the birthplace of the ‘Grateful Dead’ and have landed some great gigs in major rock and folk venues because of the association. So even though I'd much prefer to just play tunes with them around a table or out in the redwoods at music camp -- fair play to them.

Yikes, Jack. Don't relay my death threats, please! :-D I was under the influence of too much caffieine and a dark mountain pass.

Oh. I get it! The random singing was related to Dead tunes. Missed the whole point of the CD, I guess. Hey, I really liked American Beauty, but it has been a few years.....

Sadly, I think I have that Best of Irish Rebel Songs cd too. hahaha... one of my relatives got it for me many years ago; 'Oh, Bronwyn's into Irish now?... I know just the cd she would love!!!'

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

There's a Celtic rock band called the Sandcarvers who suck very, very badly. I bought a CD because I was just getting into the music, and it had a bodhran on the cover. Ever since I learned better, I have cringed whenever I see the thing on my CD stand.

I mean, the thing has 'Danny Boy' on it. *shudder*

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

I would like to say that the Britney Spears CD I bought when I was 8 was stolen like a week later. So please say that that particular CD was never REALLY in my collection. rRight? I have removed it from my memory. I never owned it.

However, the B-Witched or whatever they're called I bought at about the same time...and wasn't lucky enough to have it stolen....

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

The most embarassing CD in my collection is Rhino records' “Take It Off! – Striptease Classics”, really cheesy 50s orchestral cha-cha-chas. But I swear I only bought it for the lenticular/flicker jewel box that boasts a vintage cheescake calendar illustration of a young lady on a bed and when you change the angle she’s just in her knickers. Honest.

Either that or "The Danny Boy Album", 12 different treatments of that immortal strain.

Cartoons 'The Witchdoctor' (Wouldn't mind having the carrot-top double bass though!!!!!!)

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

One made by a friend and bought without hearing it. The friend should have known better. Self- penned scab picking sung in a whiny voice with plunky guitar and scrapy fiddle. It's strictly kept for the few occasions when friend visits.

Pity, I know friend can do better.

Jock Jams 4

I think once upon a time I also owned an In Tua Nua tape, or In Nua Tua, whatever it was...

Re: What is the most embarassing CD in your personal collection?

I think it might be the Wheel of Time soundtrack...::shudders:: I think. If I recall, that thing has been hopefully rotting away in my attic for some time.

Rock by random people, a lot of whom cannot sing for their lives, singing about the Aes Sedai and such...my god. The series isn't even a movie. It hasn't even been finished yet.
