I have the sheet music for a tune called Maggie. I think it is in the key of A flat. Does anybody have a sound file of this tune? I am having a difficult time sight reading the music and would like to hear the tune. Does this tune have other names?
I'm sorry I don't know if I know the tune, but I must say it's a plesant surprise that someone has the dots but is asking for the music, rarther than the other way round
What sort of a tune is it? Wouldn't be the air of the song known as Maggie or Nora, would it? You know: "The violets were scenting the woods, Maggie ... When first I said I loved only you" etc.
Then there's the polka, Maggie in the Woods and reel, Drowsy Maggie, hornpipe Pretty Maggie Morrisey .....................
Hi Bannerman,
where'd you dig that up from? Not quite the same as the lyrics, well known here. Was it not penned by J.M. Synge for one of his plays? Thought he had written the air as well but I could well be wrong. I usually play it in G.
Found it on a Google search but agree that your's is the well known version - Foster & Allen had a bit of a hit with it some years ago. Sean O'Casey's version was called "Norah" which Johnny McEvoy recorded in the late sixties, along with Mursheen Durkin, to the same melody - better stop here or we'll be turning the Yellow Board into a "Folk Site"!
So Sean O'Casey turned "Maggie" into "Nora"?
The spalpeen !
I've got a nice version recorded by Tom Rush.
Scjandy, you must have a piano-players version - A flat indeed !
Sorry John for putting you through mental contortions trying to sing Mursheen Durkin to the melody of Maggie! It's my use of English that's at fault - what I meant was that "Norah" was recorded on the same album as Mursheen Durkin.

Re: Maggie
There's an old-time song of that name on De Danann's album "The Star-Spangled Molly".

Re: Maggie
I beg your pardon .. it was Sean O'Casey in The Plough and de Stars who used the song but he only adapted it.

Re: Maggie
I'm trying to imagine the words of Musheen Durkin to the tune of "Nora", but it ain't working.
Where's the "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" panellists when you need them?
