Turning Wave Festival at Gundagai, Australia

Turning Wave Festival at Gundagai, Australia

I just went to the first Turning Wave Festival at Gundagai in NSW, Australia and had a brilliant time - it seems to have the potential to bring all the tune heads from round Australia, particularly Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, together for a totally cranking time. Anyone else got any thoughts on it?

In Australia it seems that tunes are too often thin on the ground, and it can be difficult to maitain momentum... but the Turning Wave is the kind of festival that can act as a fulcrum, a real focus point for all the localised tune scenes and a true meeting place. I loved it.

Too Right

was a mighty weekend Katiebee indeed! Great to see a festival that was motivated to not only show off the music, but make Irish (esp. set) dancing a huge feature of the concerts. I big step towards breaking down the music-dancing segregation that most festys suffer from here.

I think its makes a vital addition to the festival season, in a part of the year that's pretty neglected... and it's great to have a festy (sorta) half way between sydney, melbourne and canberra... and some mighty tunes were had with Conor Keane and all... and the most enthuiastic locals at the gigs... and such a beautiful town too... (gush gush - i know, but it was a bloody great weekend!)

Whole heartedly agree with all of the above. Highlight of the weekend for me was definately your sexy pink shirts Benno!!!

No, the shirts were "salmon", not pink. Sir Nose is a very discerning fellow!

I reckon the Harp Dancers are total bombshells. I love how they always congregate at sessions and carve up the floor. Much more ceili action must be had! I just wish you could dance and play at the same time... with some dignity.

Anyone else into pushing for a concertina master class next year?

Re: Turning Wave Festival at Gundagai, Australia

There'd definately be a market for the concertina workshop - 'specially after the 5-'tinas-in-one-session experience on the weekend... What's the collective noun there? A "Struggle" of concertinas maybe?

(and it wasn't pink. it was off-red)

Re: Turning Wave Festival at Gundagai, Australia

Well it's a "bellow of accordions" so why not a "keen of concertinas"?

Re: Turning Wave Festival at Gundagai, Australia

I have heard from a vaguely reliable source that it is a "Box of Concertinas".

The festival was a great success and should be even better the next time round. The organisers will be really chuffed to see you guys putting out such positive feedback!

cheers

My photo set from Gundagai is up at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ovhrprod/

I didn't have the patience to put them into any chronological order so they're a bit all over the shop. Some session pics in there.
