I have a Van der AA diatonic accordion, custom built for me about three years ago. It has 3 rows, and is in D, G and C. The three rows give a lot of scope for chromatic playing, and I have 18 basses in a layout which I specified. It is an excellent instrument with a great tone, especially on the deep notes and chords. I could MP3 a sample tune through if it helps. I play ITM and other traditions, but I tend to put in a lot of chord work with the Irish tunes, unlike many traditional players. I think this makes for a richer sound. I prefer this box to a good Castagnari which I have.

Van Der Aa accordions ... what are they like?
Just wondering if anyone on the site has played one of these Frans Van Der Aa accordions?

Jonathan,
You should ask Han Speek - he has about three of them! Contact him through the irishbox list on yahoo.

He had pictures of them on his site but it seems to be down at the moment. This is the address:

There's a 4v C#D Van Der Aa for sale at The Button Box in Massachusetts - a bit far for you to pop over and try, I suppose!
