can anyone suggest me a store in Dublin where I can buy a not to expensive but good bodhran? I'll be there for a week at the end of octobre and planning to meself a bodhran.
Thanks on advance
I'm not sure how much you're willing to spend, but Brendan White (living in Neatherlands I think) makes some of the best bodhrans in the world and his prices are very reasonable. About 200 dollars. http://www.tuneablebodhran.com/site.php
Also, one of the most popular drums of today's artists are made by Albert Alfonso who lives here in Dallas. Fantastic drums! But they come with a price tag. http://www.celticmusic.com/alfonso_bodhrans/
Anyway, the first URL has reviews for most of the Bodhran makers and links to their websites, so you can shop around.
It's just down the road a bit toward Limerick but, in the town of Thurles lives one of the very best-recommended by Tommy Hayes no less. The man's name is Mr. Charlie Brynes and he should not be hard to find. A generous bodhran and all handmade by the man himself, including the tanning of the goatskin. Very nice price as well. If you could ring him up a day or two ahead of time he could have a selection ready for you as he did me. He gave my cousin and I about a half dozen to choose from.
I do agree with the post about the Alphonso bodhran. Very nice tone but the price is twice anything else around. I do believe his sizes are quite different- as in about 14 inches instead of the traditional 18 but you'll never miss it b/c the tone is exceptional.

Check out this site. There is a listing for at least one bodhran maker in Dublin here.

I really enjoy my Charlie Bryne drum!

I agree what that about McNeill's in Capel Street. I know people that have bought some instruments there and they are really satisfied with them.
