Maybe tune has another name?

Maybe tune has another name?

Can anyone here please help me find the notes for this tune. I heard it played at a session and asked for the name. I was told it was 'Geoghegan's Reel'. I cannot find the notes for it in the tunes list here and am now wondering did I hear the name correctly. I'm not even sure if my spelling is correct and if it might be listed here under a different name. Maybe someone here might have the notes for this tune if my name for it is correct. Thanks!

Maybe if you gave us a more phonetic spelling....

Re: Maybe tune has another name?

Thanks so much for the help. Have found the tune. It's here all right under the name of Eileen O Callaghan's. Actually this particular tune appears to have at least 13 different names. Wow! Kinda confusing when you're going on just one name for a tune. I liked this bouncy reel first time I heard it and am now adding it to my list. Thanks again!

Re: Maybe tune has another name?

Most of the names are just the result of people not catching G@#g%*n's name or not knowing how to spell it. That happens quite a bit when tunes are named after people. For example, Brendan Tonra's well-known jig became Tonra's, which became Tonerows, which became Tony Rowe's, which became Tony Rose's.

The tune you were looking for is quite well-known from the historic recording of Hayes, Canny, O'Loughlin, and Lafferty (note how many other recordings have been made since then).

Good on mickray for nailing it on the first try!

Eileen O'Callaghan's is one of my favorite reels, though not widely known at most of the sessions I've been to.

Re: Maybe tune has another name?

Paul McGrattan did it as "Geehan's" with Paul O'Shaughnessy on his first solo recording. I think I'm not going to learn it until I get sick of "the Milliner's Daughter": http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/1409 Simlar and easier.
