Have a microphone? Let's play some tunes on-line on Paltalk, "Celtic Room"
Have a microphone? Let's play some tunes on-line on Paltalk, "Celtic Room"
Maybe some of you know the popular program Paltalk, in which
there are thousands of rooms to talk to people around the world by typing and speaking on the microphone.
There's a category called Music and, as there is no folk sub-category, in "others" I have my room called "Celtic Music, Irish Traditional Music and more" where I play music some times.
So I've thought... why not talk about this to TheSession? You could come and bring your instrument. I've thought we could propose a tune and every one would play it their way with their instrument.
You just need a microphone and Paltalk. (link below)
Then, as I'm not there very often, I could make you admins and the room would always be open for the TheSessioners to talk and play. I could even change the name to TheSession if you wanted...
Well... just an idea... I don't think many of you are interested, but it was worth a try.

I'd be interested to try - but what about time delay issues?
I installed the PalTalk software but wasn't particularly impressed. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seemed to be just a load of chatrooms, no video functionality.
Re: Have a microphone? Let's play some tunes on-line on Paltalk, "Celtic Room"
Well, if you want video funcionality you need the x-treme version which is not for free. But do we need video? I don't.
I think the quality of sound on Paltalk is very good, and I like the program.
About time delay... well... actually I did NOT propose this as an "on-line session". Only one person can use the mic at a time. I just meant it like a place for all the sessioners to talk, listen to music and play some tunes individually.
If anyone of you have installed it you can try to find the room (if I'm there at the moment you'll find it), and you'll become admins so the room can remain open more usually.
And anyway you can create your own ITM rooms, there is a dire need for them because as of now there are none.
Re: Have a microphone? Let's play some tunes on-line on Paltalk, "Celtic Room"
What's the point if only one person can play at a time? There are many programs that will do this already... msn, yahoo, google messengers, for example.
Re: Have a microphone? Let's play some tunes on-line on Paltalk, "Celtic Room"
The point is it's a public room where there can be many people in a queue to play.
If you find a better program in which many people can play at the same time with no time delay let me know.
Re: Have a microphone? Let's play some tunes on-line on Paltalk, "Celtic Room"
Paltalk is great for people hearing each others play, but as it's a one-at-a-time-on-the-microphone system, it won't let you have a "session" as we know it.
I used to compere a room for mudcat, but the later versions of the paltalk software made my spyware detectors go berserk, so I don't use it any more.
Great for "song circle" type meetings, but I don't trust the security issues in the freeware version.
"Caveat Emptor" as the Romans might have said.
