hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and only starting to explore, anyway, pleased to be on here with yous all. So please take me under your collective wings and help me to get into the swing here
Hi Gary! Not been around long myself. Good to have another guitarist on board - I reckon that if enough of us involve ourselves in ITM we'll eventually get the recognition we deserve eh?
Hey - just in case folks think this is a Guitar only thread, I'll have you know I play the Fiddle (well, I try)
By the way, if you two Guitar dudes are looking for inspiration, you should check out the two Tommy Emmanuel movies on this site: http://www.woodsongs.com/showlist.asp
If your looking for perspiration - get yersels down to the nearest session pub!
Actually did have a go at looking at it but my dufus of a computer wouldn't let me play any of the clips! As for sessions - was at one yesterday in Gogarty's in Temple Bar. They played a lovely set of polkas - the Tolka Polkas by Donal Lunny I believe. Guiratist was strumming like the clappers and didn't even look flushed never mind perspire. Wish I could do that - I nearly give myself hear-failure when I try to strum that fast! Fiddler looked a bit sweaty though
That's good to hear. Am going to an annual music school session next week where different classes get together to show off their tunes. Am getting in training for the annual wrestle the microphone off the accordion, whistle, fiddle, banjo and bodhrán players contest!
Pleased to meet you too Reido - but don't be fooled, there are a few right twits on this site aswell!
well I guess time will tell, So bring me up to speed, what all's been going on, what all's coming up and what all's happening right now.
Good luck to Siansa with the session next week, I've had an idea of how to get that mic..... get a pal to stand outside the door and shout "free bar" that should shorten the que.
Maybe you folks can be my Mr Miagii and I'll be your Daniel San. I've been strumming and picking my way through trad songs for the best part of a year now, but although it sounds half decent when I'm using them to warm up the auld string holders and pullers. But I'd love to get a few jigs and reels under me belt so where oh where do I begin folks?

Och that's a pity, they're well worth a wee keek.

Aye, truth is we're a sweaty, smelly bunch, but our hearts are in the right place & we always have a good word to say about the guitar player!

Re: HOWYA'S
Fab idea! And by God, once I get a hold of it there'll be no getting it back
Thanks for good luck wishes, will let you know how it goes.
As for what's going on - am not around long enough to have much of a clue I'm afraid!

Re: HOWYA'S
Hey reido,
If you have nothing against the idea of learning good Scottish tunes on the Guitar, you could start here:
http://www.musicintime.co.uk/ScottishGuitar.htm
Where you'll find a whole bunch of MP3s of very tasty tunes plus a very useful PDF file into the bargain - have fun.
