Jeez Bren,
I don't expect to ever be able to get my own mits on any Ireland rugby match tickets until they start staging the matches in Croke Park! I assume you'll take your foot out of the French camp on Saturday and place it firmly in the Munster scrum for the day that's in it! You can't write a decent ballad in honour of both sides you know.
Up Munster! Anyone have any suggestions or know why there is a Stag on the flag.
I think it's a great distraction and there may be fewer punters around town this weekend at my local sessions as the rugby fans will be otherwise occupied resulting, I hope, in a few quieter sessions. So, there you go, it does relevance to trad : )
Hard to supplant The Fields of Athenry at this stage, I would have thought! Bit of a dirge but then perhaps it's a case of satisfying the lowest common denominator. Up the boyos!
Up Munster! I hope the lads do well. I can guarantee you that all the Welsh boys will be supporting them this weekend. Will this lead to a sequel for the Fields of Athenry?
21061 - I amn't particularly enamoured by your numerical non-musical pseudonym, and your lack or artistic open-mindedness. Would tell you to get off the site yourself except for the fact that unlike you I have an open mind!
I think the Stag on the Munster emblems is either in relation to the Red stags of Killarney or the giant elk that once roamed Ireland. In particular it may represent the antlers of one of those giant elk that washed up on a Kerry beach about twenty odd years ago. So why put it on the Munster flag when the Munster emblem is well known enough? It's a supposed modernising of the provincial clubs to attract more popularity. They tried to give each team a nickname but it only lasted about one season and was hugely unpopular. Connacht were known as the Connacht Eagles at one time, much to my disgust. As for a song.... The Shannon lads sang 'There's an Isle' on winning the AIB championship two weeks ago and many said it brought a tear to their eye. Of course it could have been their singing!
Go on Munster!
Go on Munster!
Hope you're all working on composing ballads to celebrate the anticipated heroic exploits of the lads on Saturday.

Re: Go on Munster!
By the way do you know anyone with any spare tickets - for a friend?
I was just in Aquitaine on business and we have a small office in Shannon so you might say as a neutral I have a foot in both camps

Re: Go on Munster!
Good to hear you being so positive - well done 21061! Maybe we should write a ballad about that instead - "An fear ar nós no réidhe"
Nice one Biggus Dave - had a good oul chuckle at that. Maybe you could give sense of humour lessons to 21061?
