Tenor Banjo Recordings

Tenor Banjo Recordings

Hello,
I am aware of the main players in the Irish style tenor banjo playing...people like Gerry O'connor, Kevin Griffin & John Carty. I was just wondering, are there any recordings available of someone non-irish playing a tenor banjo in a style similar to, but not exactly Irish trad? Or a tenor banjo player doing material outside the normal traditions associated with the instrument. I've heard a little Elmer Snowden, the Harlem Banjo player. He plays jazz style, but he's playing notes rather than strumming chords. What about Harry Reser?

Re: Tenor Banjo Recordings

Harry Reser's a good call - you can find recordings of him on emusic.com http://www.emusic.com/album/10586/10586447.html

Then of course there's the great Gary Peterson of Hom Bru who really covers the spectrum.

Re: Tenor Banjo Recordings

How 'bout a 5 string banjo playing Irish? Chris Grotewohl is a talented guy... and he fits the bill of "not exactly Irish trad"...

Re: Tenor Banjo Recordings

Not sure if Seamus Egan's CD, In Your Ear, is still available; but if so, I highly recommend it:

This Seamus Egan, originally from County Offaly, lives in Portland, OR; not to be confused with the the Solas Seamus Egan.
