I finished up all the instrumental lead tracks for our upcoming CD today. I looked at the titles and noticed that I had learned 3 of them from the session. Paddy Taylor's or Tripping is too good to be ignored. White Petticoat is tune that I have been enchanted with since first heard it on a Solas CD. I found Ash Grove the other day and it conveys exactly the feel that I wanted to start a set of tunes with.
I get far more out the Session than I could ever put into it. Tunes! I have learned about 25 winners and I have another 15 lined up. Thank you so much to all the posters and Jeremy.
I have learned quite a bit from the discussions as well. I wondered why I was getting a few weird looks at sessions. At the same time I found out that I have been on a high Horse as well. Yup - even the negative posts helped.
I am not sure why I am telling you all this except that I am in a great mood because the CD project is going fantastic. Other than that - Maybe it's because you all deserve it.
Good to see a thread like this - I'd echo that. Wonderful site and so great not to have to suffer gratuitous graphics and ads. I think it's the best online community around...
Perhaps I should get down to learning some of these tunes - my tunebook's bursting at the seams. A certain banjo player in Cork once described me as a tunaholic (even though I haven't eaten tuna, or any other kind of fish, in 14 years). I do download pretty much every tune from the session which I don't already know or have in some form or other. So The Session serves to feed my addiction, and ensures that I get quality stuff - no powdered glass or fertiliser.
...And what's more, the Discussions section allows me to express my misinformed and misguided opinions in a way that I would never dream of doing to anyone's face.
